Manitoba time zone: how to fix a clock or meeting that's an hour off

In effect since November 1, 2026

Also stopped clock changes on November 1: Alberta · B.C.

Manitoba's clocks didn't fall back on November 1, 2026. The province now keeps Manitoba Standard Time (MBT), UTC−05:00, all year. That's the time it has had since March 2026, and the same as Toronto in winter.

The change was announced on September 17, so some devices and systems may have missed the update. The Government of Manitoba ↗ expects most phones and computers to update on their own.

Something wrong?

  • Clock, phone or computer an hour behind? Fix the device.
  • Websites, Gmail or Outlook on the web an hour behind? Update your browser (Windows · Mac).
  • Meeting an hour late? Check your calendar.
  • Meeting an hour early? Usually the device or app you're looking at hasn't updated. Fix the device, and don't move the meeting.
  • Meeting with Toronto, the East or most of the U.S. moved? That's usually correct: see the time differences.
  • Meeting with Alberta, Saskatchewan or B.C. moved? It shouldn't have: ask the organizer.

What to do

  1. Fix the time zone, not the hour. If a clock has a time zone setting, don't move it an hour by hand. Clocks you set by hand, like an oven, stay as they are. If you turned one back out of habit, set it forward an hour again.
  2. Update and restart your phone, computers and web browsers. Then check the time zone: Windows PC · Mac · iPhone or iPad · Android · Other devices
  3. Check meetings from November 1 on. Some may show an hour late: checklist · Outlook · Google Calendar · Apple Calendar
  4. Run a business? Ask the companies behind your payroll, time clocks, point-of-sale, phone and booking systems if they're ready: business checklist.
Most important

Check your appointments from November 1 on

Fixing your computer's time zone does not fix appointments that already exist. Calendar apps got Manitoba's new rules only in October. Appointments booked before your calendar app got the update can show the wrong time, usually an hour late. For example, a 9:00 a.m. meeting shows at 10:00 a.m.

If a meeting shows an hour early, the device or app you're using is usually out of date or on the wrong time zone. Fix the device and don't move the meeting.

Expect some mix-ups for a while. Even once your calendar is right, other people's may not be. Their invitations can be an hour off, and yours can look wrong to them.

If a time is wrong

Meeting with someone outside Manitoba? Meetings with Toronto, the East and most of the U.S. moved, and that's usually correct. Check the time differences before changing anything.

How to fix Outlook

Set your calendar's time zone

  • New Outlook and Outlook on the web: open Settings → Calendar → View. Set Display my calendar in time zone to (UTC-05:00) Manitoba.
  • Classic Outlook: it uses the same time zone as Windows, so set Windows first (Windows steps). If you chose Bogota in Windows for now, leave Outlook on it too: changing it in Outlook changes Windows.
  • Outlook for Mac: install the latest update (Help → Check for Updates). If the new Manitoba time zone in its Calendar settings shows UTC−05:00, make it your default. If it shows UTC−06:00, don't choose it. Set up and change meetings in Outlook on the web at outlook.office.com for now.
  • Outlook phone app: new meetings use your phone's time zone. The app can't fix existing meetings, so fix those in Outlook on the web or the desktop app.

Fix a meeting you organized

  • New Outlook and Outlook on the web:
    1. Open the meeting. For a recurring one, choose Edit series.
    2. Select the time to expand it.
    3. Select the time zone (globe) button and choose (UTC-05:00) Manitoba.
    4. Check that the start time is the time you agreed, for example 9:00 a.m., not 10:00 a.m. Correct it if not.
    5. Save and send.
  • Classic Outlook:
    1. Open the meeting. Select Time zones, or Edit Recurrence for a recurring one.
    2. Choose (UTC-05:00) Manitoba as the time zone. Not in the list yet? Choose (UTC-05:00) Bogota, Lima, Quito, Rio Branco for now.
    3. Check that the start time is the time you agreed, for example 9:00 a.m., not 10:00 a.m. Correct it if not.
    4. Save and send.

If it shows no time zone, open a new appointment, select Time zones, then try again.

  • Send the update to everyone. Forwarding the meeting doesn't fix the time for your guests.
  • Watch out: changing the time zone of a recurring series resets any one-off changes in it, such as a single meeting moved to another day. Re-create those afterwards.

Outlook for Mac or the phone app shows a meeting differently from Outlook on the web? Microsoft is still checking those apps with the new time zones. Until it's done, go by Outlook on the web at outlook.office.com.

How to fix Google Calendar

Events on or after November 1 that were created before mid-October could show an hour late. Google said it would move most of them back automatically in October. When Google moves an event, your guests are asked to RSVP again.

Google does not fix invitations that came from Outlook, or recurring events where one meeting was changed. Fix those yourself.

  • Check Google Calendar's own time zone: at calendar.google.com, open Settings (the gear), then Time zone. Primary time zone should name Winnipeg, not Chicago or another U.S. city.
  • Use a computer: at calendar.google.com, affected events show a warning with a Move one hour earlier button. The phone apps don't show it.
  • Recurring event: open the next meeting in the series on or after November 1 and select Move one hour earlier. Choose This and following events, then redo any changes you'd made to single meetings in the series.
  • Invitation from someone using Outlook: if the time looks wrong, ask them to resend it with the right time. Forwarding it doesn't fix the time.

How to fix Apple Calendar (iPhone, iPad, Mac)

  1. Restart your iPhone, iPad or Mac first: see the steps for your device.
  2. Check appointments from November 1 on against the original confirmations, especially invitations that came from Outlook or Google.
  3. If your work email is Microsoft 365, also check your calendar in Outlook on the web at outlook.office.com.

Apple hasn't published guidance for existing events.

Update your phone and computer

Don't add or subtract an hour by hand

On a device with a time zone setting, fix the time zone instead. Install updates and restart. If a device makes you pick a time zone:

  • Choose Manitoba or Winnipeg. On Windows, that's (UTC-05:00) Manitoba.
  • No Manitoba option, or still an hour behind with it? Choose Panama or Bogota for now. They keep Manitoba's time all year.
  • Avoid Central Time, Chicago, Saskatchewan and Regina: they show the time an hour behind, at least in winter. Eastern Time and Toronto match Manitoba only in winter.
  • Some devices label Manitoba's time EST or Central. Go by the clock, not the label.

If a device shows the time an hour behind, it hasn't updated yet or is on the wrong time zone. Follow its steps below.

Windows

Clock an hour behind? Follow the steps below, then check the clock. Only websites an hour behind? Update your web browser.

These steps are for a home PC. For a work computer, ask your IT support first.

  1. Open Start → Settings → Windows Update. On Windows 10, it's Start → Settings → Update & Security → Windows Update.
  2. Select Check for updates and install anything available. Restart if asked (save your work first).
  3. Open Start → Settings → Time & language → Date & time.
  4. Make sure Set time automatically is on.
  5. Turn Set time zone automatically off.
  6. Open the Time zone list and look for (UTC-05:00) Manitoba. Look through the whole list.

If you see Manitoba

  1. Select (UTC-05:00) Manitoba.
  2. If you see Adjust for daylight saving time automatically, make sure it's on. Microsoft says to turn it back on once you have the Manitoba setting.
  3. If you see Sync now, select it. Then check that the time is right.

If you don't see it yet

  1. Select (UTC-05:00) Bogota, Lima, Quito, Rio Branco for now. It's on UTC−05:00 all year, with no daylight saving switch, so it shows the same time as Manitoba.
  2. If you see Sync now, select it. Then check that the time is right.
  3. In a few days, run Windows Update again. Once (UTC-05:00) Manitoba appears, switch to it. If you see Adjust for daylight saving time automatically, make sure it's on.

A PC that no longer gets Windows updates, such as Windows 10 without Extended Security Updates, won't get it. Keep Bogota and plan to upgrade or replace the PC. On this setting, times from past winters, such as an email from last January, show an hour later. That's expected.

Chose (UTC-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada) on Microsoft's advice? That's Microsoft's own stand-in. It shows Manitoba's time only while Adjust for daylight saving time automatically stays off. If that switch is on, the clock jumps an hour ahead on March 14, 2027. Once Manitoba appears, switch to it and turn that switch back on.

Update your web browser too

Do this whichever time zone you chose. Until they're updated, Chrome, Edge and Firefox may not know (UTC-05:00) Manitoba. Websites, including Gmail and Outlook on the web, then show the time an hour behind.

  • Chrome: open the ⋮ menu, then Help → About Google Chrome. Wait for the update, then Relaunch.
  • Edge: open the ⋯ menu, then Help and feedback → About Microsoft Edge. Wait for the update, then Restart.
  • Firefox: open the ☰ menu, then Help → About Firefox. Wait for the update, then restart Firefox.

Websites still an hour behind?

  1. Choose (UTC-05:00) Bogota, Lima, Quito, Rio Branco for now, then close and reopen the browser.
  2. In a week or two, update the browser, switch back to (UTC-05:00) Manitoba and check again. Newer browser versions fix this; Chrome started rolling out its fix on October 27.

Teams an hour off? Update Teams and Edge, then quit and reopen Teams. Microsoft is still checking Teams. If it's still off, join from the Outlook invitation and use the Bogota setting for now.

Travelling? With automatic time zone off, Windows won't change zones for you. Set it by hand on trips outside Manitoba.

Mac

Clock an hour behind? Do the steps below, including the restart. Already updated and restarted? Skip to step 7.

Apple sends time zone updates to Macs in the background. They need a few settings on and only take effect after a restart.

  1. Open System Settings → General → Date & Time. Make sure Set time and date automatically and Set time zone automatically using your current location are both on.
  2. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services and make sure Location Services is on. Scroll to the bottom and click Details next to System Services. Make sure the time zone and system customization settings are on, then click Done.
  3. Open System Settings → General → Software Update and install any updates it shows. Then click the ⓘ next to Automatic Updates and make sure Install system data files and security updates is on. On some versions it's called Install Security Responses and system files.
  4. Use Chrome, Edge or Firefox on this Mac? Update it too. Older versions don't have Manitoba's new rules, so websites in them show times an hour behind from November 1.
  5. Restart your Mac (Apple menu → Restart), even if you haven't seen a message about it. System Settings doesn't show whether your Mac has the update, so this is the step that matters.
  6. Check this device's clock. Compare it with a phone or computer you've already checked. Don't go by a cable or satellite TV box: some get the time zone wrong.

If the clock is still an hour behind

  1. Turn off Set time zone automatically using your current location.
  2. Type "Panama" in Closest city, choose Panama from the list, and press Return. On some Macs, click Set first, then OK instead of pressing Return. If you see Panama City, Florida, don't pick it: it's on Central Time.
  3. Panama not offered? Try "Bogota" or "Cancun". These keep Manitoba's time all year, so this is a safe temporary fix. While it's set, your Mac won't change time zones when you travel.
  4. In a week or two, turn the automatic setting back on and restart. If the time is right, leave it on. If it's an hour behind again, switch back to Panama and try again later.

iPhone or iPad

Clock an hour behind? Do the steps below, including the restart. Already updated and restarted? Skip to step 6.

Apple sends time zone updates to iPhones and iPads in the background. They only take effect after a restart.

  1. Open Settings → General → Date & Time and make sure the automatic settings are on. On iOS 26 and earlier, that's Set Automatically. On iOS 27, it's both Set Time Automatically and Set Time Zone Automatically. Can't find them? Search Settings for "time zone".
  2. Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services and make sure Location Services is on. Scroll to the bottom, tap System Services, and make sure Setting Time Zone is on.
  3. Open Settings → General → Software Update and install any updates. Then tap Automatic Updates. If you see a System Files section, make sure the Automatically Install switch under it is on. On older versions, turn on Security Responses & System Files.
  4. Restart your iPhone or iPad: tap Settings → General → Shut Down and drag the slider. Then hold the side or top button until the Apple logo appears. Restart your Apple Watch too, if you have one. Settings doesn't show whether your device has the update, so this is the step that matters.
  5. Check this device's clock. Compare it with a phone or computer you've already checked. Don't go by a cable or satellite TV box: some get the time zone wrong.

If the clock is still an hour behind

  1. Turn off the automatic time zone setting from step 1: Set Automatically, or Set Time Zone Automatically on iOS 27.
  2. Tap Time Zone (Time Zone City on iOS 27) and search for "Panama". Choose the Panama entry. If you see Panama City, Florida, don't pick it: it's on Central Time.
  3. Panama not offered? Try "Bogota" or "Cancun". These keep Manitoba's time all year, so this is a safe temporary fix. While it's set, your device won't change time zones when you travel.
  4. In a week or two, turn the automatic setting back on and restart. If the time is right, leave it on. If it's an hour behind again, switch back to Panama and try again later.

Android phone or tablet

Clock an hour behind? Do the steps below, including the restart. Already updated and restarted? Skip to step 8.

Android gets time zone changes through system updates and Google Play system updates. Google warned that some phones might not get the update in time, so check yours.

  1. Install any system updates. On most phones that's Settings → System → Software update; on Samsung, Settings → Software update.
  2. Install the Google Play system update too: Settings → Security & privacy → System & updates → Google Play system update. On Samsung, it's Settings → Security and privacy → Updates → Google Play system update. Can't find it? Search Settings for "Google Play system update".
  3. Update your apps in the Play Store, including Chrome. Chrome has its own time rules for websites.
  4. Restart the phone.
  5. Check whether the update arrived:
    1. Open Settings → System → Date & time (on Samsung, Settings → General management → Date and time). On other phones, search Settings for "time zone".
    2. Turn off the automatic time zone switch for a moment. It's the switch under Time zone, called Automatic time zone, Set automatically or Set time zone automatically depending on the phone. Leave the date and time switch alone.
    3. Tap Time zone (Select time zone on Samsung) and read the line under the time zone. Don't pick anything from the list.
    4. GMT-05:00 means your phone has the update. GMT-06:00 means it doesn't yet. If you see neither, go by the clock.
    5. Go back and turn the automatic time zone switch on again.
  6. If the update hasn't arrived, use the Panama steps below now. Then install updates again in a week or two.
  7. Check this device's clock. Compare it with a phone or computer you've already checked. Don't go by a cable or satellite TV box: some get the time zone wrong.

If the clock is still an hour behind

  1. Open the date and time settings (step 5a) and turn on the automatic time zone switch. If there's a location switch under it, turn that on too. On recent Pixel phones they're called Automatic time zone and Use location for time zone. Check the time again.
  2. Still wrong, or still no update? Turn off the automatic time zone switch. Tap Time zone (Select time zone on Samsung) and set the region to Panama. If Panama isn't listed, choose Colombia. Both keep Manitoba's time all year, so this is a safe temporary fix. While it's set, your phone won't change time zones when you travel.
  3. In a week or two, turn the automatic setting back on and restart. If the time is right, leave it on. If it's an hour behind again, switch back to Panama and try again later.

Chromebooks, smartwatches, smart clocks, cameras and cars

  1. Install any software updates the maker offers. Google warned that some Chromebooks and smartwatches might not get the update in time.
  2. Check whether any of these devices is an hour behind. On a Chromebook, select the time at the bottom right, then Settings → System preferences → Time zone. Leave it on Set automatically.
  3. If a device is an hour behind, or has a time zone setting and no Manitoba option, fix its time zone:
    • Choose Panama, Bogota or Cancun for now if it offers one. On a Chromebook, select Choose from list to pick one.
    • If it only offers UTC offsets, choose UTC−05:00, turn daylight saving off, then check the clock matches Manitoba time right now.
    • If it only offers zones like Pacific, Mountain, Central and Eastern with a daylight saving switch, choose Eastern and turn daylight saving off. Radio-controlled "atomic" clocks and many car clocks work this way.
    • Don't just turn daylight saving off on Central: that puts the clock an hour behind.
    • As a last resort, set the time by hand. A radio-controlled clock resets itself overnight, so this won't stick on one.
  4. In a week or two, install updates again. Then set a Chromebook back to Set automatically, and switch other devices to Winnipeg or Manitoba if they now offer it. If the time is an hour behind again, switch back and try again later.

Clocks you set by hand, like an oven or microwave, don't need anything. If you turned one back out of habit, set it forward an hour again.

What's ready and what isn't

As of October 29, 2026. Manitoba announced the change on September 17, about six weeks ahead. Some phones, computers and business systems may have missed the update. Some of the items below may have been fixed since.

Not ready yet: use a workaround

  • Websites on a Windows PC set to Manitoba: Chrome, Edge and Firefox without the latest update show times an hour behind. Firefox has the fix from version 159, but Microsoft hasn't said which Edge version has it. Update your browser. Chromium ↗ · Mozilla ↗
  • Windows 10 without Extended Security Updates: it won't get the Manitoba setting. Use the Bogota setting and plan to upgrade or replace the PC. Microsoft ↗
  • Meetings already in Outlook: they don't move to the new time zone on their own. Organizers need to fix meetings from November 1 on. Microsoft ↗
  • Google Calendar: Google said it would move most affected events in October. It doesn't move invitations from Outlook, or recurring events with changes. Check your events. Google ↗
  • Outlook phone app: it can't fix existing meetings. Use Outlook on the web at outlook.office.com. Microsoft ↗

Unknown: check these now

Ready: update and restart

  • Windows 11, and Windows 10 with Extended Security Updates: Microsoft's October 13 update adds (UTC-05:00) Manitoba to Windows and Outlook. Windows steps. Microsoft ↗
  • Chrome and Firefox: Chrome 156 or later and Firefox 159 or later have Manitoba's new rules. Older versions show Manitoba times an hour behind from November 1. On a Windows PC set to Manitoba, Chrome also needs the fix it started rolling out on October 27. Chromium ↗ · Mozilla ↗

Run a business?

Ask the company behind each of these systems whether it has Manitoba's new time rules. Then check each one.

  • Payroll and time clocks: an overnight shift from Saturday, October 31 to Sunday, November 1 was its normal length this year, with no extra hour.
  • Point-of-sale and booking systems: check appointment and receipt times. For Microsoft Bookings, Microsoft says to review appointments after November 1.
  • Phone system: business hours and the auto-attendant.
  • Door access, alarms and cameras: schedules and timestamps.
  • Servers and scheduled tasks: reports, backups and automated workflows. For Microsoft Power Automate, Microsoft says to use the Bogota time zone for now.

Time differences with Manitoba from November 1

A meeting with Toronto, the East or most of the U.S. moved? That's usually correct. Those places still change their clocks, and Manitoba doesn't. Go by the time in the organizer's time zone.

Meetings with Alberta, Saskatchewan or B.C. shouldn't move. If one does, check the time with the organizer.

Not in Manitoba?

  • Northwestern Ontario: Kenora, Dryden, Fort Frances, Red Lake, Sioux Lookout and nearby communities that used Central Time now keep Manitoba's time all year. Use the steps on this page. Thunder Bay and most of the rest of Ontario still change their clocks. Global News ↗
  • Alberta: Alberta has also stopped changing its clocks, and stays an hour behind Manitoba all year. See the Alberta time zone fix.
  • B.C.: most of B.C. has also stopped changing its clocks, and stays two hours behind Manitoba all year. See the B.C. time zone fix.
  • Saskatchewan: nothing to do. Manitoba now stays an hour ahead of you all year, instead of matching you in winter. In Creighton or Denare Beach, on Flin Flon's time? Follow the steps on this page as if you were in Manitoba.
  • Anywhere else: if you keep a second time zone or world clock for Manitoba, set it to Manitoba or Winnipeg on an updated device. Central Time (US & Canada) and Chicago show Manitoba an hour behind every winter.

Frequently asked questions

Do I turn my clocks back in Manitoba on November 1, 2026?

No. Manitoba's clocks no longer fall back, so don't turn any clocks back. The province stays on Manitoba Standard Time (MBT), UTC−05:00, all year. The province expects most modern phones and computers to update on their own, but install your updates and restart each device. Then, from the morning of November 1, compare each clock with a phone or computer you've already checked. If a device shows the time an hour behind, fix its time zone setting rather than moving the clock by hand. Clocks you set by hand, like an oven or microwave, don't need anything.

What is Manitoba Standard Time (MBT)? Is it standard or daylight time?

Manitoba Standard Time (MBT) is UTC−05:00, the province's time all year from November 1, 2026. Despite the name, it's the same clock time as the daylight saving time Manitoba used each summer. In effect, Manitoba stays on daylight time permanently. It no longer falls back to Central Standard Time in the fall or springs forward in March.

Which time zone should I choose on my computer or in Outlook?

On Windows and in Outlook, choose (UTC-05:00) Manitoba. On a phone or Mac, leave the time zone on automatic, or choose Winnipeg. If there's no Manitoba option, or the clock is still an hour behind with it, choose Panama or Bogota for now. On Windows, that's (UTC-05:00) Bogota, Lima, Quito, Rio Branco. Switch back to Manitoba once the device is updated. Avoid Central Time (US & Canada), Chicago, Saskatchewan and Regina. Some people chose Eastern Time (US & Canada) with Adjust for daylight saving time automatically turned off, following Microsoft's interim advice. That works only while the switch stays off, so leave it off until you switch to (UTC-05:00) Manitoba. Then turn Adjust for daylight saving time automatically back on, as Microsoft advises.

Why is my meeting an hour off, and which meetings do I need to fix?

Meetings from November 1 on that were booked before your calendar app got Manitoba's new rules can show an hour late. Changing your computer's time zone doesn't fix them. The organizer has to open each one, set its time zone to (UTC-05:00) Manitoba, check the start time and send the update. In Google Calendar on a computer, use Move one hour earlier on events that show a warning. If a meeting shows an hour early, the device or app you're looking at usually hasn't updated, so fix the device instead. Meetings with Toronto and most of the U.S. shift by an hour because those places still change their clocks. That's usually correct. The province also advises confirming travel and medical appointment times.

Is Winnipeg the same time as Toronto now?

In winter, yes. From November 1, 2026 to March 13, 2027, Winnipeg and Toronto show the same time. Toronto springs forward on March 14, 2027 and Manitoba doesn't, so Toronto is an hour ahead until it falls back on November 7, 2027. Before this change, Winnipeg was always an hour behind Toronto.

What is the time difference between Manitoba and Saskatchewan or Alberta?

One hour all year, with Manitoba ahead. When it's 9:00 a.m. in Winnipeg, it's 8:00 a.m. in Regina, Saskatoon, Calgary and Edmonton. In past winters, Manitoba matched Saskatchewan. Alberta also keeps the same time all year from November 1, 2026, so the gap with Alberta stays one hour. Most of B.C. is two hours behind Manitoba all year.

Did Manitoba switch to Eastern time? Why does my device say EST?

No. Manitoba is on its own time, Manitoba Standard Time, which is UTC−05:00 all year. That's the same clock time as Eastern Standard Time, so some computers and apps may label it EST. Others may still say Central. If the clock shows the right time, the label doesn't matter. Manitoba matches Toronto only in winter. From March 14, 2027, Toronto is an hour ahead.

Why do websites show the wrong time when my computer clock is right?

Your web browser keeps its own time zone rules. On a Windows PC set to (UTC-05:00) Manitoba, older Chrome, Edge and Firefox may not recognize that setting. Websites then show the time an hour behind. Older browsers on any computer may also have Manitoba's old rules, which put websites an hour behind from November 1. Update your browser, close and reopen it, then use the browser check on this page. On Windows, if websites are still an hour behind, choose (UTC-05:00) Bogota, Lima, Quito, Rio Branco for now. Switch back to Manitoba once the browser is updated.

What should my business check?

Ask the companies behind your payroll, time clocks, scheduling, point-of-sale, phone and booking systems whether they have Manitoba's new time rules. Then check that each one shows the right times and schedules. Also check Microsoft 365 and Google calendars, door access and alarm schedules, security camera timestamps, servers and automated jobs. Count the overnight shift from Saturday, October 31 to Sunday, November 1, 2026 as its normal length, with no extra hour. The Government of Manitoba has a checklist for businesses at gov.mb.ca/timechange.

Does Kenora or northwestern Ontario change its clocks?

Kenora doesn't, but Thunder Bay does. Kenora, Dryden, Fort Frances, Red Lake, Sioux Lookout and nearby communities that used Central Time keep Manitoba's time all year from November 1, 2026. Thunder Bay and most of the rest of Ontario still change their clocks. In winter, Thunder Bay matches Winnipeg. From March 14, 2027, Thunder Bay is an hour ahead. Atikokan, which doesn't change its clocks, matches Winnipeg all year.

Will Manitoba spring forward in March 2027?

No. Manitoba's last clock change was the spring-forward on March 8, 2026. There is no fall-back on November 1, 2026 and no spring-forward in March 2027. Places that still change their clocks, such as Toronto, Chicago and most of the U.S., spring forward on March 14, 2027. The time difference with them changes then.
